Triple R Report’s Game of the Day September 1st, 2016: #5 Colorado State University-Pueblo Thunderwolves @ #18 Colorado School of Mines Orediggers (NCAA D-2 Football)

Cue the wolves! It’s that time of year again. The 2014 NCAA Division II National Champion Thunderwolves hit the turf to begin their 2016 season. After a finish that no one affiliated with CSU wanted last year, the T-Wolves are back on a mission. They’re going to make the trip up north to Golden and take on RMAC (Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) rival Colorado School of Mines. Both teams are ranked to begin the year so look for a great game to happen tonight. Here’s each teams bio’s from last year:

#18 Colorado School of Mines Orediggers:

  • Ranked 18th in preseason AFCA Coaches Poll
  • Last year the Orediggers:
    • Finished (8-3) Overall & (6-3) in the RMAC
    • Finished 3rd in RMAC Standings
      • Behind CSU-Pueblo & Colorado Mesa
      • Did not make playoffs
    • 2 Freshmen made the roster.
      • Mostly older team made up of Juniors.
  • Triple R’s Bold Prediction for the Season:
    • “Mines use to have a strong football program which has declined as of late. This may be a year in which they could make believers out of fans. With so much experience retuning the Orediggers are coming to break CSU-Pueblo’s RMAC Championship streak.”

#5 Colorado State University-Pueblo Thunderwolves:

  • Ranked 5th in preseason AFCA Coaches Poll
  • Last year the Thunderwolves:
    • Finished (12-2) Overall (9-0) in the RMAC
      • RMAC Champions for 5th straight year.
    • Lost in D-II Qtr. Finals
      • Defeated U of Indianapolis in 1st Round 27-14
      • Defeated Midwestern State in 2nd Round 26-17
      • Lost to Grand Valley State in Qtr. Finals. 31-7
    • 19 Freshmen made the roster
      • Pretty even mix of all classes
  • Triple R Report’s Bold Prediction of the season:
    • “Now I’m going to sound a little bias cause I’m apart of #ThunderwolfCountry, but oh well it’s my blog. So CSU is going to dominate this year, they have yet to hit their peak and who knows when they will. They will win the RMAC (again) this year. They’re going to go far in the tournament this year and might win it all.”

Triple R’s Bold Prediction of the Game:

“Bernard McDondle is going to have a big game for CSU, look for him to be the main portion of their offense. Look for high scoring to come from the Thunderwolves. They’re going to get out early and not look back.”

Triple R’s Game Prediction:

“Colorado State-Pueblo defeats Colorado Mines 45-17.”

Well there you have it, all you need to know before you tune in to watch this huge RMAC matchup. Oh, did I not mention that earlier? Yeah, you can watch this game tonight on ESPN3 on WatchESPN. Triple R Report’s Game of the Day September 1st, 2016: Fowler Grizzlies @ Rocky Ford Meloneers

We’re a little less than two weeks into the 2016 Class 2A Volleyball season and Santa Fe League action is beginning to pick up. Today’s “Triple R Report’s Game of the Day” features the Fowler Grizzlies traveling down Highway 50 to play the Meloneers of Rocky Ford at the “Melon Dome”. Here is how each team stacks up:

Fowler:

  • 0-1 on the early season
    • Lost to Hoehne in 5 sets on Tuesday (25-19, 19-25, 21-25, 25-23, 15-7)
  • Looked great in season opener, just came up short
  • Will play Las Animas next Thursday for only game of the week for Grizzlies
  • Fowler will look to bounce back this week against the Meloneers
    • Have played great against Rocky in the past.

Rocky Ford:

  • 2-2 so far in 2016
    • Went 2-1 @ Ellicott Tournament (defeated Ellicott & Center 2-0, lost to Highland 2-0)
    • Lost to John Mall on Tuesday 3-0 (25-15, 25-22, 25-20)
  • Last year the Meloneers:
    • Finished 7th in the Santa Fe League
    • Lost 3-1 to John Mall in the District 6 pigtail
    • Finished Ranked 45th in 2A Volleyball
    • Return 8 players from last year’s varsity squad:
      • Lost Hannah Moore, Hannah Mayne, Leann Sackett, Alexis Mayne to graduation.
        • Moore now playing for Colby CC
      • Lost Kaylee Soltero due to moving
    • Triple R’s bold prediction for the season:
      • “Rocky Ford has been on the move up as of the past few years, look for that to continue in 2016. They’re ready to make some noise in the SFL.

Triple R’s Bold Prediction of the Game:

“Look for Fowler to get out early and stay there. As much as it pains me to say this being a former Meloneer, the Meloneers may have some trouble tonight. They may be playing from behind the whole night. But who knows maybe they’ll prove me wrong.”

Triple R’s Game Prediction:

“Fowler defeats Rocky Ford in 3 sets.”
