Friday Pick ‘Em (October 16th)

It’s back again, the Friday Pick ‘Em is here . Last week we picked 5 of the 6 winners, let’s see if we can make it a perfect week this week. Here’s your Week 2 Friday Pick ‘Em

Pick Record: 5-1
Points: 8

Series (Since 2004): 2-1 Cheraw
Last Meeting (10/24/2015): 77-38 Cheraw

For the second week in a row Cotopaxi will play a team from the A-6 Southeast League, and once again the game will be in Cotopaxi. The Pirates had a close one against Manzanola last week. And it’s a close one again this week. Cheraw 44-40

Series (Since 2004): 3-0 Granada
Last Meeting (8/30/2019): 24-18 Granada

This one is easy, Bobcats win! As we mentioned above, Manzanola had a close one with Cotopaxi last week. But it’s not Cotopaxi this week, instead Manzy opens the league schedule with a solid Granada team. Granada is too much for Manzanola to overcome, Granada 60-14.

Series (Since 2004): 6-2 Simla
Last Meeting (10/18/2019): 28-14 Simla

Almost a year later to the date, these two will meet. A close matchup these last two squared off, and I wouldn’t expect anything less than that tonight. Swink comes out on top 35-30

Series (Since 2004): 6-2 Fowler
Last Meeting (10/11/2019):

Fowler is going to be playing 2 games in a matter of 4 days. This one is in the Ark Valley League, which I feel is Fowler’s to lose. Grizzlies handle Panthers easily 52-6.

Series (Since 2004): 1st Meeting
Last Meeting: N/A

Crowley County’s move to 8-Man began with a 35-0 shutout of Akron. We’ll see how they can handle a league foe like McClave. Chargers are ranked #8 in A-8, they win by 8. Crowley 28-20

Series (Since 2004): 2-0 Florence
Last Meeting (8/30/2019): 40-6 Florence

Rocky Ford had a tough time with #4 Centauri last week, once again they play the #4 team in Florence. The Florence run game is going to be the key here. Huskies run away here 21-7.

Series (Since 2004): First Meeting
Last Meeting: N/A

COVID-19 has once again played apart of schedules for Colorado. Originally La Junta was set to host Manitou Springs, instead they welcome in Pueblo County. These two teams have met for preseason scrimmages the past few years. La Junta gets the first regular season matchup, 35-7.

Ark Valley Sports Game(s) of the Week: Rocky Ford @ #4 Florence

Week 1 saw 3 ArkValleyFootball teams take home victories. What does Week 2 have in store for us. We start the league schedule in the 1A Tri-Peaks this week as Rocky Ford once again plays the #4 team in the state in the Florence Huskies. This time the Meloneers will be on the road. They had some struggles last week against Centauri in a lopsided 54-7 loss.

Here’s Part 1 of the Week 2 Ark Valley Sports Game(s) of the Week.

Rocky Ford Meloneers

Record: 0-1 Overall

Last Week: Lost to #4 Centauri 54-7

Pass Yards/Game: 33 yards

Rush Yards/Game: 30 yards

Total Yards/Game: 63 yards

Points/Game: 7 points

Players to Watch: Chance Finch (Senior), Jasha Smith (Sophomore)

#4 Florence Huskies

Record: 1-0 Overall

Last Week: Defeated Gunnison 32-8

Pass Yards/Game: 70 yards

Rush Yards/Game: 356 yards

Total Yards/Game: 426 yards

Points/Game: 32 points

Players to Watch: Owen Busetti (Senior), Jacob Kennedy (Junior)

Ark Valley Sports PRediction:

To stop Florence you have to stop the run. Last week the Meloneers gave up 252 to Centauri. That can’t happen tonight or it’ll be another long night for Rocky Ford. Meloneers stop the run, but Florence comes out on top, 21-7.

Ark Valley Sports Game(s) of the Week: McClave @ #8 Crowley County

Crowley County got their first win in the 8-Man division in convincing fashion last week, 35-0 over Akron. The Chargers were rewarded for the win with moving to #8 in the CHSAA poll. This week they begin league play against a very tough McClave team.

Here’s Part 2 of Week 2’s Ark Valley Sports Game(s) of the Week.

McClave Cardinals

Record: 0-1 Overall

Last Week: Lost to #1 Sedgwick County 55-12

Pass Yards/Game: N/A

Rush Yards/Game: N/A

Total Yards/Game: N/A

Total Points/Game: 12 points

#8 Crowley County Chargers

Rush Yards/Game: 253 yards

Ark Valley Sports Prediction

Crowley County showed they can be a force in 8-Man football, they have a meeting with Fowler in Week 5, that we believe will be between two top-10 teams. The Chargers get a huge in the Ark Valley League this week, 28-20

Friday Pick ‘Em (October 9th)

We already highlighted two of the games on the #ArkValleyFootball Schedule for tonight, but every week we’ll also give you our picks for every game featuring an Arkansas Valley team.

In case you forgot here is how the scoring works:

Correct Winning team: 1 points
Correct Score within 5pts: 3 points
Correct Score Exactly: 5 points

So without any more hesitation here is the first “Friday Pick ‘Em” for the 2020 Season.

Cheraw Wolverines @ Cripple Creek-Victor Pioneers (A-6 Non-Conference)

Cheraw is coming off a disappointing 3-6, 0-5 season last year. Cripple Creek-Victor hasn’t been much better. Its going to be a slugfest in the mountains tonight. Cheraw with the win 58-46.

Manzanola Bobcats @ Cotopaxi Pirates (a-6 Non-Conference)

In a new league with the realignment due to COVID-19, the Bobcats won’t have the “light” league schedule they have in past years. Cotopaxi is no slouch in 6-Man. Bobcats season starts out a little rough. Cotopaxi 60-12.

Crowley County Chargers @ Akron Rams

We featured this game in one of our Ark Valley Sports Game(s) of the Week….you can read that here: https://bit.ly/AVSGOTW1…Crowley is down into the 8-Man ranks this year and the Chargers continue where they were in 1A. Chargers gallop to the win, 48-22.

Swink Lions @ Byers Bulldogs

The Lions are coming off a second place finish in the A-8 Southern conference last season. They open the 2020 season against a struggling Byers team. Lions roar in this one, 36-6

Rocky ford Meloneers vs. #4 Centauri Falcons

Again another game we featured in our Ark Valley Sports Game(s) of the Week…which you can read here: https://bit.ly/AVSGOTW2…you already know whats happening here, Centauri is on Upset Alert, Meloneers win at home 28-20.

La Junta Tigers @ Englewood Pirates

La Junta is heading into the season under new coach Drew Sisson, who served under both Clint and Ty Buderus. The Tigers are still trying to find a solid quarterback, could Nathan Frankmore be that in 2020? Tigers win this one on the road 35-14

Ark Valley Sports Game(s) of the Week: Rocky Ford vs. #4 Centauri

Are you ready for some football?! The condensed 2020 season kicks off tonight as 6 of the 7 Arkansas Valley teams playing football in Season A take the field. And we’re back with out most popular segment here, its time for Ark Valley Sports Game(s) of the Week. This week we feature two games from the schedule. This time we’ll look up at the opening week matchup between Rocky Ford and #4 Centauri in Class 1A.

The Meloneers are coming off their first playoff appearance in 10 years. It didn’t end the way they had wanted it to but the Meloneers will look to be back this year. Rocky Ford wont have an easy task right off the bat as Centauri comes in ranked #4 in Class 1A in the preseason poll. The Falcons are coming off a trip to the State Semifinals last year, which they lost a close one to #1 Strasburg. It’ll be a good one in Melon Country tonight! Remember we are going to be giving you stats from the 2019 season, so it won’t be a true reflection of this years teams. Saying that, lets get into how each team looks and get a prediction from yours truly…

Pass Yards/Game: 126.5 yards

Ark Valley Sports Prediction:

Are we really going to put Centauri on “Upset Alert”? You bet we are! It’s 2020 after all, anything can happen. Got to go with the hometown boys in this one. Meloneers, at home, with the upset 28-20!

Ark Valley Sports Game(s) of the Week: Crowley County @ Akron

Are you ready for some football?! The condensed 2020 season kicks off tonight as 6 of the 7 Arkansas Valley teams playing football in Season A take the field. And we’re back with out most popular segment here, its time for Ark Valley Sports Game(s) of the Week. This week we feature two games from the schedule. We’ll start here with Crowley Count traveling to Akron to start their season.

The Chargers have dropped to the 8-Man ranks this year after being a perennial playoff team in Class 1A. It will be a new look Charger team as they get ready to adjust to the 8-Man game. Akron has been a staple in 8-Man for years, except last year where the Rams placed last in the A-8 Plains League. Remember we are going to be giving you stats from the 2019 season, so it won’t be a true reflection of this years teams. Saying that, lets get into how each team looks and get a prediction from yours truly…

Crowley County Chargers

2019 Record: 5-4 Overall (1A), 4-1 1A Santa Fe League

League Finish: 2nd in 1A Santa Fe League

Season Finish: Did not make playoffs

Rush Yards/Game: 144.4 yards

Pass Yards/Game: 67.8 yards

Points/Game: 25 points

Player(s) to Watch: Adam Schultz (Senior), Tach Brewer (Junior)

Akron Rams

2019 Record: 1-8 Overall (A-8), 0-6 A-8 Plains League

League Finish: Last in A-8 Plains League

Season Finish: Did not make playoffs

Rush Yards/Game: 147.3 yards

Pass Yards/Game: 60.9 yards

Points/Game: 12.4 points

Player(s) to Watch: Grayson Pachner (Senior), Xavier Livesay (Junior)

Ark Valley Sports Prediction:

It’s the Chargers first year in 8-Man football, so it will take some adjusting for the team. The adjusting doesn’t take long as they take on a down Akron squad. Chargers on top, 48-22.
