Friday Pick ‘Em (October 5th, 2018)

Let’s begin to have a little fun here. We’re going to start a new segment  with Ark Valley Sports, the Friday Pick ‘Em. Here’s how it will work:

  • Every Friday i will pick the winners of some football games across the Arkansas Valley, Colorado College Football, and the Denver Broncos
    • Every week I will pick the winners in:
      • (4) High School football games *1 from each classification (A-6, A-8, 1A, 2A)
      • All the College Football games featuring Colorado, Colorado State-Fort Collins, Air Force and Colorado State-Pueblo
      • Denver Bronco Game
    • Every week I will update you on the outcome of the weekend and give you my overall record

High School Football:

Cheraw Wolverines vs. Edison Eagles (A-6 Non-Conference)

  • Date & TIme: Saturday 7pm
  • Location: Cheraw High School
  • Record: Cheraw (1-3, 0-3)     Edison (2-2, 1-1)
  • Last Week: Cheraw (L 61-20 vs. #9 Granada)     Edison (W 33-14 @ Hanover)
  • Series (since 2004): Edison leads 3-2     Cheraw’s last win in series was in 2007

PICK:  Cheraw has had a rough start to the season. Edison has had an average season. Eagles tame the Wolverines tonight 61-30.

 

Swink Lions @ Calhan Bulldogs (A-8 Southern)

  • Date & TIme: Saturday 1pm
  • Location: Calhan High School
  • Record: Swink (2-3, 1-1)     Calhan (1-4, 0-2)
  • Last Week: Swink (W 38-0 vs. Miami-Yoder)     Calhan had a BYE
  • Series (since 2004): 1st Meeting

PICK:  Swink picked up the win last week. Calhan has had two weeks to prepare. Get ready for a classic in Calhan. Lions come out on top 35-30.

 

Rocky Ford Meloneers @ Ellicott Thunderhawks (1A Santa Fe)

  • Date & TIme: Saturday 1:30pm
  • Location: Ellicott High School
  • Record: Rocky Ford (1-4, 0-1)     Ellicott (0-5, 0-1)
  • Last Week: Rocky Ford (L 42-8 vs. #9 Crowley County)     Ellicott (L 42-0 vs. #3 Peyton)
  • Series (since 2004): Tied 3-3

PICK:  Rocky Ford has struggled this year. Ellicott has struggled a little more. The series is tied, the game won’t be. Meloneers take down Thunderhawks 34-6.

 

#1 La Junta Tigers @ ELizabeth Cardinals (2A Tri-Peaks)

  • Date & TIme: Friday 7pm
  • Location: Elizabeth High School
  • Record: La Junta (5-0, 1-0)     Elizabeth (3-2, 1-0)
  • Last Week: La Junta (W 40-0 @ Woodland Park)     Elizabeth (W 41-0 vs. Manitou Springs)
  • Series (since 2004): La Junta leads 2-0

PICK:  Tigers are #1. Elizabeth is 3-2. Cardinals are having a good year. Tigers are having a better one. Its all La Junta tonight 42-0.

 

College Football:

Air Force Falcons vs. Navy Midshipmen (Commander-In-Chief Trophy)

  • Date & TIme: Saturday 1:30pm
  • Location: Falcon Stadium (Colorado Springs, CO)
  • Record: Air Force (1-3, 0-2)     Navy (2-2, 1-1)
  • Last Week: Air Force (L 28-25 vs. Nevada)     Navy had an OPEN WEEK
  • Series  Air Force leads 29-21     Each team has 2 wins in last 4 meetings

PICK:  The Commander-In-Chief’s trophy. Air Force. Navy. Falcons take down Midshipmen in a close one 21-20

 

#21 Colorado Buffaloes vs. Arizona State Sun Devils (Pac 12 South)

  • Date & TIme: Saturday 2pm
  • Location: Folsom Field (Boulder, CO)
  • Record: Colorado (4-0, 1-0)     Arizona State (3-2, 1-1)
  • Last Week: Colorado (W 38-16 vs. UCLA)     Arizona State (W 52-24 vs. Oregon State)
  • Series: Arizona State leads 8-1     Teams have split last two meetings

PICK:  Colorado is looking to get off to their best start in school history. Not even if Herm Edwards was playing do the Sun Devils stand a chance. Buffs 28-7

 

CSU-Fort Collins Rams @ San Jose State Spartans (Mountain West)

  • Date & TIme: Saturday 8:30pm
  • Location: CEFCU Stadium (San Jose, CA)
  • Record: CSU-Fort Collins (1-4, 0-1)     San Jose State (0-4, 1-1)
  • Last Week: CSU-Fort Collins (L 35-19 vs. Illinois State)     San Jose State (L 44-41 vs. Hawaii)
  • Series: CSU-Fort Collins leads 5-4     CSU-Fort Collins has won last 2 meetings

PICK:  A game of struggling Mountian West teams. Neither of these teams will win their division or the confernece. It’s about pride now. Rams take down the Spartan 35-28.

 

CSU-Pueblo Thunderwolves vs. New Mexico Highlands Cowboys (RMAC)

  • Date & TIme: Saturday 6pm
  • Location: Neta & Eddie DeRose Thunderbowl (Pueblo, CO)
  • Record: CSU-Pueblo (4-,1, 3-1)     New Mexico Highlands (2-2, 2-2)
  • Last Week: CSU-Pueblo (W 41-14 vs, SD Mines)     New Mexico Highlands had an OPEN WEEK
  • Series: CSU-Pueblo leads 10-0

PICK:  It’s simple in this one. New Mexico Highlands has yet to win a game in the series. After this game they still won’t have. Pack wins big 60-7.

 

National Football League:

Denver Broncos @ New York Jets

  • Series  Denver lead 20-15-1    Denver has won last 3 meetings

PICK:  Vance Joseph is possibly playing for his job. Broncos help him keep it, Broncos win 35-14.
